The Story
Relais Castello di Morcote sits at the edge of the village of Morcote — one of the most beautiful lakeside villages in Switzerland — with a position above Lake Lugano that combines Italian light with Swiss discipline.
The speciality here is Ticino Merlot: Swiss-grown, rarely found outside the canton, completely different from its French or Italian counterpart. The wine list focuses on local and Swiss producers. The food is Italian-influenced, correct, not the reason you came (the wine and the view are).
Signature Drinks

Ticino Merlot
Swiss Merlot from Ticino — lighter than Bordeaux, more structured than Italian Merlot. One of Europe's most underrated wine secrets.

Risotto al Merlot
The house dish — risotto cooked with Ticino Merlot, the wine and the food inseparable.
The Feeling
Feels like
Italy if it were organised by the Swiss — warm, beautiful, everything exactly right.
Best time
Sunset dinner — Lake Lugano turns gold
Music
The lake. Italian conversation drifting from the village below.
Perfect for
The CinCin Notes
Morcote is the Switzerland that most visitors don't reach — a Ticino lakeside village that feels entirely Italian, organised entirely Swiss. Relais Castello is the right place to sit and drink Merlot as the light changes on the lake.
If you haven't had Ticino Merlot before, this is the correct introduction. It is better than most people expect.
