Weingut Wolfgang Maitz lies in Ratsch on the South Styrian Wine Road: a family winery with its own tavern, a sun terrace above the vineyards and rooms for guests.
Josef and Maria Maitz bought a five-hectare winery in 1957 and opened a Buschenschank wine tavern. In 1975, Wolfgang Maitz senior took over and added a guest house. Today Wolfgang Maitz junior, the third generation, runs the estate together with Carina Kaiser.
Four single vineyards, one origin
Since 2013 the winery has belonged to the STK (Steirische Terroir- und Klassikweingüter), a group of Styrian estates that classify their wines by origin. At Maitz that runs from the regional Südsteiermark DAC through the village wine Ehrenhausen to the single vineyards Sulz, Krois, Schusterberg and Hochstermetzberg. The wines can be bought at the estate.

Evenings in the tavern
The tavern serves Styrian dishes with Mediterranean influences, alongside wines from the estate and elsewhere in Europe. In good weather you sit on the sun terrace above the vineyards.

The wine hotel has double rooms and suites in several categories, with a balcony or terrace depending on the room, and a breakfast buffet built around regional produce.
For longer stays, the family also rents out the Schusterberg holiday house, a log house set among their own vineyards, and two holiday apartments open to adults only.
