Feel Como — Chef Federico at work in the kitchen

The Story

The area around Lake Como offers authentic gastronomic treasures that are sometimes overlooked. Feel Como is built on a single commitment: to return to nature, to the territory, to the ingredients — and through them, to celebrate the identity of this place.

The lake gives the kitchen its backbone. Lavarello and persico — the whitefish and the perch that have swum these waters for centuries — appear alongside freshwater prawns from the Lario. From the forests and alpine valleys that ring the lake come the other half of the larder: mushrooms, wild herbs, berries picked by hand, the mountain's seasonal logic.

Chef Federico, a member of the Jeunes Restaurateurs d'Europe, translates this proximity into plates that are precise and contemporary without ever losing their roots. The dialogue between land and water is constant — and in this splendid region, every meal becomes a unique experience, where the beauty of the landscape is reflected in the flavours of the dishes.

Meet the Host

Feel Como — Hand holding freshly foraged wild strawberries from the valley

Federico

Chef — Jeunes Restaurateurs d'Europe

This proximity cuisine gives unique flavours and experiences, and translates the nature of this wonderful corner of the world.

Federico is a member of the Jeunes Restaurateurs d'Europe — an association that recognises young chefs who cook with genuine connection to their territory. At Feel Como, that territory is the Lario: the lake, the forests above it, the valleys that feed into it. His cooking celebrates rather than decorates what this landscape produces.

Philosophy

How we work.

  • Return to the territory — the menu is built from what the lake, the forests and the alpine valleys around Como produce, season by season

  • The lake's own fish — lavarello, persico and freshwater prawns from the Lario are the kitchen's backbone, treated with precision and respect

  • Land and water in constant dialogue — what the forest and the alpine valley bring meets what the lake gives, on every plate

Signature Dishes

Feel Como — Signature fish dish with herb stripes and saffron

Lake fish, herb stripes & saffron

A signature plate from Feel Como's kitchen — lake fish composed with precision, layered herb stripes, saffron and a caramel-like reduction. The landscape on a plate.

Feel Como — Lavarello in red leaf with crispy polenta and cream sauce

Lavarello in red leaf, polenta & cream

Lavarello — the prized whitefish of Lake Como — wrapped in a red leaf with crispy polenta cubes and a cream sauce with herb oil. The Lario made contemporary.

Persico — lake perch from the Lario

Persico — lake perch from the Lario

Perch from the lake — the fish that has fed the villages of Como for centuries, handled with the care and technique of a JRE kitchen.

Forest harvest — wild herbs, mushrooms & berries

Forest harvest — wild herbs, mushrooms & berries

The other half of the kitchen: what the forests and alpine valleys above the lake produce. Seasonal, foraged, composted into the menu.

The Feeling

Feels like

Vaulted stone arches, white tablecloths, candlelight — a room that carries the weight and quiet of Como's old buildings, made contemporary by the cooking that happens inside it.

Best time

Dinner — when the stone arches catch the candlelight and the lake is dark outside

Music

Quiet and considered — the room does not need competing with.

The CinCin Notes

Feel Como is the argument for eating in Como rather than driving up to Bellagio or Varenna. Chef Federico cooks with the lake as his central ingredient — lavarello, persico, freshwater prawns — and the forests and valleys above it as the supporting cast. The room, with its vaulted stone arches, has the bones of something old and the composure of somewhere that knows what it's doing.

The JRE membership tells you something: this is a young chef with genuine rootedness in his territory, cooking at a level that doesn't need to announce itself.

Book for dinner. Eat the lake fish. Pay attention to what the valley has sent down.
