Chesa Marchetta

AlpineLiteraryIntimate

Chesa Marchetta is a small, seasonal hotel in Sils Maria — the Engadin village that sits apart from St. Moritz by both geography and character. The building is a traditional Chesa: thick stone walls, low pine ceilings, the silences and proportions of a house that has stood for centuries. It opens each summer in June and closes when the season ends.

Old Walls, New Ideas

Where Engadin heritage meets contemporary design

Chesa Marchetta is proof that historic architecture and contemporary design can coexist beautifully. Rather than preserving the building as a museum piece, the centuries-old house has been carefully reimagined for modern life.

Traditional Engadin details sit alongside contemporary furniture, clean lines and understated materials. The historic structure remains visible throughout, while the interiors feel unmistakably current.

The result is a hotel that respects its past without being defined by it.

Alpine Flavours, Reimagined

A modern take on Engadin cuisine

The Engadin has always been shaped by its mountains. Long winters, alpine pastures and centuries of local traditions have created a cuisine that is deeply connected to the landscape. At Chesa Marchetta, these roots remain visible, but they are interpreted with a contemporary perspective.

Regional ingredients, seasonal produce and local specialities form the foundation of the menu. Traditional recipes are refined rather than reinvented, allowing the flavours of the region to take centre stage.

Whether it is a slow breakfast before a day in the mountains or dinner after returning to the village, the experience feels closely tied to the rhythm of the Engadin itself.

The best way to understand a place is often through its food.

Sils Maria

Via da Marias 88, 7514 Sils / Segl Maria, Graubünden, Switzerland

Sils Maria sits at the southwestern end of the Upper Engadin, between Lake Sils and Lake Silvaplana. The landscape is extraordinary: two lakes, high alpine meadows, and the Maloja Pass dropping into the Italian-speaking valleys of Bregaglia. Nietzsche summered here for seven consecutive years; the house where he stayed is now a museum. The hiking from the village is among the finest in Switzerland.
