Adelboden is not a place that tries hard. The Bernese Oberland has no time for performance — the mountains do that on their own. The Brecon fits in: a hotel that knows what it is and wastes no energy explaining it. Michelin awarded it a Key. We'd say: it's the right thing in the right place.

Our take
Why we love it
All-inclusive without compromising on style or food — that is a combination rarely done well.
Adults only (18+) and a guests-exclusive spa: you share the hotel only with like-minded people.
Adelboden-Lenk is one of the best ski areas in Switzerland — and in summer one of the most beautiful hiking regions.
Nicemakers turned a building from 1914 into something that feels neither old-fashioned nor forcefully new.

Food & Drink
The kitchen at The Brecon is part of the experience — and the price. Breakfast à la carte, no scramble, no buffet. Afternoon tea with something small. In the evening, a multi-course dinner accompanied by selected wines — all included, through to cocktails and digestifs. The kitchen works with alpine produce and a contemporary touch that is neither regional-kitsch nor placeless-international.

Wellness & Activities
The spa at The Brecon is exclusively for hotel guests — no day passes, no external visitors. Steam room, sauna, outdoor pool, and a relaxation room with an open fire. The pool is heated year-round and looks out over the mountain landscape — in winter with snow, in summer with alpine meadows. Large enough to swim in; small enough that you never have to share it.

A Day Here
Morning: breakfast à la carte, no rush, no buffet scramble — mountain views. Then out: skiing, hiking, mountain biking or simply reaching one of the alpine lakes. Midday: on the mountain or back at the hotel, the spa is waiting. Afternoon: tea, the fireside relaxation room, outdoor pool if the mood is right. Evening: change for dinner, multi-course meal, the wine pairing arrives without question. Early to bed — tomorrow holds the same programme, and that is just fine.

Village Cosy
The Village Cosy faces the village side — compact, warmly furnished, with views of Adelboden and the surrounding peaks. Timber, wool, muted tones. A room that needs nothing more than it has.

People
The Hosts
The Brecon was built in 1914 as the Waldhaus — the upper building of what was then Hotel Huldi. A century later, Nicemakers from Amsterdam reimagined the house: restrained, material-conscious, without overwriting the character of the building. Timber, stone, leather, wool. The team runs the hotel with the conviction that guests should not have to think — about the price, about the reservation, about the next meal. That is all-inclusive in the best sense.

Why We Prefer Smaller Hotels

Adelboden
Dorfstrasse 88, 3715 Adelboden, Schweiz
Adelboden sits in the Bernese Oberland, at the end of the Engstligental — not a transit point, but a destination. In winter, the Adelboden-Lenk ski area is one of the largest connected ski areas in Switzerland. In summer, the valley becomes a hiking paradise: mountain lakes, alpine passes, waterfalls. The Hahnenmoos is a classic in both winter and summer — by gondola or on foot. The nearest train station is Frutigen (around 20 minutes), from where direct trains run to Bern or Spiez.
